Towards a better <i>Mycoplasma bovis</i> control through improving early diagnosis, isolates typing and susceptibility profiles

Proposal Summary

Mycoplasma bovis, a pathogen of cattle, has various clinical presentations of disease (respiratory, mastitis and arthritis) that predominate in different European countries. Economic and welfare impacts are significant. With no commercial vaccine and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) rife, it is difficult to control. Lack of standardised diagnostic, typing and susceptibility testing methods makes epidemiological comparisons difficult. A panel of isolates will be established and used to evaluate current diagnostic and typing methods. Data will be compared with whole-genome-sequencing analyses, available at some partner institutes. Information on in-silico genotypes and AMR-conferring polymorphisms and best diagnostic and typing methods will be obtained.
