Health, animal welfare, work environment and resource exploitation in new farrowing pens

The longevity of sows is essential both for animal welfare reasons and farm economy. We intend to analyze the behavior of sows and piglets during the interval from farrowing to weaning and how it affects sows and piglets and the work environment. We aim also to validate farrowing pens designed with a potential to expand ability to exercise a natural behavior, and to prevent diseases.
